Forensic psychologists vs. Forensic psychiatrists
If you ever search online for a forensic psychologist, after your first hit or two, the names you get tend to start being the names of forensic psychiatrists. However, forensic psychologists and forensic psychiatrists are NOT THE SAME THING. Forensic psychiatrists and psychologists may do some of the same things, such as working with criminals or giving expert testimony, psychiatrists are physicians. They go to medical school. You call them doctor, but not simply because they have a doctoral degree. Forensic psychiatrists get specialty training in the understanding, treatment, and diagnosis of mental illness. Psychologists rarely, if ever, diagnose a patient. Be very careful with psychiatrists and psychologists, because they are different enough that if you confuse the two, you can run into quite a bit of trouble.
